The future of ESG reporting: Caseware launches first ESG reporting app

Dusseldorf, Germany, 17 July 2023 – Caseware, one of the world’s leading software solution providers in the areas of audit, financial reporting and data analysis, launches the first ESG reporting app.

Caseware’s ESG reporting app supports companies as well as consultants of sustainability reports in all stages of the reporting process – from scope determination and data collection to the creation of the report.

Over 15,000 companies in Germany have to start submitting sustainability reports by 2026 at the latest.

For large capital-market-oriented companies, this obligation has already been in effect since 2017. The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) extends the obligation to large non-capital-market-oriented companies starting from fiscal year 2025 and to small and medium-sized capital-market-oriented companies starting from 2026.

Companies that are required to submit an ESG report for the first time in 2026 for fiscal year 2025 should already address the subject now in order to understand the requirements arising from the CSRD and implement suitable processes and systems.

“It is becoming apparent that the internal effort as well as the consulting and auditing effort of firms will be more extensive for sustainability reporting than for financial reporting”, says Axel Zimmermann, Managing Director and Head of Commercial of Caseware Germany. “This is why dealing with the subject early on and selecting and evaluating supporting technologies is essential.”

Supported by the know-how of experienced auditors, Caseware has developed an app which optimally supports companies and consultants in the creation of reports.

Among the main features of the app are the following:

• Scope determination: The app provides a questionnaire-based stakeholder and company materiality analysis based on the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) to determine the scope of the report for a reporting year.

• Data queries and collaboration: The app facilitates the exchange of data and enables collaboration with all those responsible for this subject. Documents can be requested by using predefined queries directly within the app.

• Text drafts: Based on the scope and the information obtained, the app outputs text modules for the report, which can be customized according to the defined wording of the sustainability report.

The Caseware app ESG will be available from autumn 2023.
