Changes to Login Procedures and Authentication in Windows
Conversion
Time 2006 and higher requires a user name and password to log into the program instead of a user ID and password. As the latest version of Time converts files from Time 2005 or prior, it copies the current user ID to the user name field in lower case characters. From then on, the user inputs the user name and the password to log in.
Example
Time 2005* user ID = DW, password = DW
Time 2006/8/9 user name = dw, password = dw
* 2005 and prior versions
Changes to Login when offline or when Active Directory Integration is not used
When using Time offline or without Active Directory Integration, the login procedure is the same as used in previous versions of Time. The user enters his Time user name and password. User names can be changed in the Staff dialog.
Changes to Login with Active Directory Integration ON
In this version, use the same user list for logging into Time that is used to log into Windows and your company network. This means a user can have one user name and password that logs them into your firm's network and automatically authenticates them when they log into Time.
To take advantage of Active Directory Integration, a brief setup is required. We recommend that the setup be done by a system administrator since an incorrect setup can result in users being prevented from accessing Time files.
We recommend that the system administrator in your firm be familiar with setting up file access rights, permissions, user names and passwords and that the system administrator follow the steps outlined in this document.
The person should be familiar with:
- Creating and setting up permissions on shared data folders on a network server;
- Active Directory user management;
- Time users' IT (information technology) requirements.
