Frequently asked questions
Do I need a separate add-in for Caseware Verity for Excel?
No. Caseware Verity for Excel is part of the Cloud Connector add-in. When Cloud Connector and a Caseware Verity license are enabled for your account, a Caseware Verity tab appears in the Cloud Connector pane.
Will Caseware Verity change my workbook without asking?
No. For most requests, Caseware Verity proposes a change and asks for your approval before writing it. You review each proposed change before it's applied and can undo an approved change in Excel like any other edit. For explicit, unambiguous instructions (for example, 'materiality to cell A1'), Caseware Verity applies the change directly without a separate approval step.
Can Caseware Verity access other engagements or files outside this engagement?
No. Caseware Verity for Excel can only access the engagement the workbook is opened from.
Which documents can Caseware Verity read?
PDF, Word and Excel documents uploaded to the engagement. It can't read image-only files or other unsupported file types.
Can Caseware Verity create a file for me to download?
No. Caseware Verity presents analysis in the chat and can draft into your workbook. To keep a result, approve it into your workbook or copy it from the chat.
Is my engagement data safe?
Yes. Caseware Verity for Excel operates within your Caseware Cloud environment. Your data isn't used to train AI models, isn't shared between firms and doesn't leave your Caseware Cloud environment.
Troubleshooting
The Caseware Verity tab does not appear
The Caseware Verity tab appears in the Cloud Connector pane only when both the Cloud Connector add-in and a Caseware Verity license are enabled for your account.
To troubleshoot this issue:
-
Confirm the Cloud Connector pane opens. If it doesn't, see Troubleshooting for Cloud Connector.
-
Confirm with your firm administrator that a Caseware Verity license is assigned to your account.
-
Close and reopen Excel after the license is assigned.
Caseware Verity cannot see your engagement or documents
Caseware Verity for Excel can only access the engagement the workbook is opened from, and reads documents uploaded to that engagement.
To troubleshoot this issue:
-
Confirm you opened the Excel file from your Caseware app, not from a local copy. Opening the file from the engagement authenticates Caseware Verity to that engagement.
-
Confirm the documents you expect are uploaded to the current engagement.
Caseware Verity cannot find standards or firm guidance
The authoritative standards and firm knowledge bases aren't loaded in every engagement. If Caseware Verity can't find relevant guidance, it tells you rather than providing an unsupported answer. Confirm with your firm administrator whether the relevant knowledge base is available for your solution and engagement.
See Create firm-managed knowledge bases for more information.
A proposed change did not write to the sheet
Caseware Verity writes to your workbook only after you approve a proposed change.
To troubleshoot this issue:
-
Confirm you approved the change when Caseware Verity proposed it.
-
If the sheet or cells are protected, unprotect them and try again. Caseware Verity can't write to protected sheets.
Processing is taking longer than expected
Running Caseware Verity across a large set of documents takes longer than a single-document request. Allow the request to complete before starting another.
