Features
Cloud integration
- Hybrid Cloud firms can now access their Cloud-integrated engagement files from the new Caseware Cloud menu on the Working Papers File | Open page. This functionality is no longer combined with the SmartSync Server menu. You can search through and filter your firm's entities, then select an entity to view the associated engagement files. Opening an engagement file from this interface automatically checks out a local sync copy to your computer.
IDEA integration
- There are no changes to Working Papers regarding IDEA integration; however, updates to IDEA will add functionality to SmartAnalyzer apps that will be accessible within Working Papers.

CaseView
- Fixed an issue that allowed users to delete milestones in previously locked-down engagements using CaseView.
- Fixed an issue where insignificant XBRL data was being stored in CaseView documents and caused performance issues in the Knowledge Library.
- Fixed an issue where copy and pasting text from a Word document on Microsoft OneDrive to a CaseView document would cause CaseView to stop responding.
Data Store
- Fixed an issue that prevented users from connecting to shared stores through Working Papers if they were created in a version of SQL Server that is no longer supported.
Documents
- Fixed an issue where Working Papers would stop responding after adding a file with a long file path to the Document Manager.
- Fixed an issue where all the documents in a query would download to the same placeholder location, regardless of the Author ID they were assigned.
- Fixed an issue where the sent date and signed-off date of documents with an electronic signature would use a default setting and ignore the system's assigned date and time format.
Interface
- Fixed an issue where Working Papers would stop responding upon launching QuickBooks.
Features
Automatic documents
- Added the Context selector to uncorrected misstatement type documents in consolidated files. Users can select the entity within the consolidated entity structure as context for the document.
Hybrid Cloud
- Documents can now be assigned multiple Queries Author IDs, separated by a comma or semicolon. As a result, users can download multiple query documents to the same location in the Document Manager when clicking Cloud | Receive.
- When integrating Working Papers with a Cloud site, URLs containing the web protocol (http:// or https://) no longer prevent integration until they are manually removed. The web protocol is now automatically truncated from the URL.
- Added support for the Microsoft Accounts browser extension. User credentials from the extension can now authenticate access to content in Working Papers.
IDEA integration
- IDEA SmartAnalyzer and IDEA projects are now accessible from the Working Papers ribbon. Users can initiate SmartAnalyzer tests within Working Papers to incorporate analytics into their engagement workflow. For more information, visit idea.caseware.com.

CaseView
- Fixed an issue where opening an adjustment in CaseView would cause the active user’s initials to override the creator’s initials.
- Fixed an issue where embedded images sourced from other CaseView documents would fail to load and report an error that the image must be converted to a non-embedded image.
- Fixed an issue where some notes in the reference column of the balance sheet displayed in the wrong order.
- Fixed an issue where using Find and Replace to replace a body of text with a shorter piece of text resulted in an error.
- Fixed an issue where users could only edit Form Mode documents if they had edit permissions for Design Mode documents.
- Fixed an issue in certain CaseView versions that prevented users from saving documents as PDFs if the documents contained cells with characters from multiple languages.

Hybrid Cloud
- Fixed an issue where performing a year-end close and roll forward on a file that is both Cloud-integrated and published would not roll forward contact information to the next year's file.
- Fixed an issue where local computers were not scanned for sufficient disk space prior to downloading large sync copies, resulting in an error and partially downloaded files. Insufficient disk space will now prevent the file from downloading.
- Fixed an issue in certain Working Papers versions that caused files to be downloaded a folder level above their intended destination.
Imports
- Fixed an issue where the active period of AccountView imports would default to yearly, even when it was not applicable.
- Fixed a compatibility issue that prevented users from completing imports from E-conomic Online Accounting and Sage One Accounting.
- Fixed an issue where Xero imports would not include the journal descriptions of bank general ledger details.
Interface
- Fixed an issue where the registry repair prompt that displays after installing Windows updates would not correctly repair the registry and would prevent users from accessing Working Papers and Connector.
- Fixed an issue where converting a sync copy to a newer version of Working Papers would result in both the converted and unconverted copies displaying in the Recent Files pane.
- Fixed an issue where files recently published and synchronized with Cloud would display as not fully synchronized in the Recent Files pane.

Features
Cloud integration
- To prevent the duplication of next year files, a warning now displays when performing a year end close on a file that has already had its next year file published to Cloud.
- To prevent Contact 1 and 2 information from changing in a file after Cloud integration, Cloud contacts can now be selected directly in the file's Engagement Properties in Working Papers.
- Signed query documents now retain e-signature metadata when downloaded to the Document Manager using the Receive function. Documents containing e-signature data display an information icon and hovering over the document name displays a summary of the signature. To download the e-signature log, right-click the document and select Export Signature Log.
- Using the Receive function to download query documents to the Document Manager now includes the option to receive all new query documents, including those that have not been associated with a particular document using an AuthorID.
IDEA integration
- Imported IDEA database files now use an updated IDEA icon in the Document Manager.
- Imported external documents now use icons relative to their file type in the Document Manager rather than a generic IDEA icon.

ASCII and Excel import enhancements
We’ve reduced the amount of time it takes to import large ASCII and Excel file types into Working Papers by 30%. This estimate is dependent on your hardware configuration and may be affected by the storage location of your files.
AnalyticsAI file deletion after year end close
An error message now displays if the year end close process fails to delete an associated AnalyticsAI file. If you receive this error, you’ll need to manually delete the AnalyticsAI file in Cloud.
Document Manager rename prompt
When adding a document that contains unsupported characters in the file name to the Document Manager, a prompt now displays to rename the document.
General enhancements

- Working Papers now supports imports from Sage 50 2021 (USA).
- Updated the AuditFile XML import to the 3.2 standard. This update should resolve recent compatibility issues.
- Updated the SAF-T PT XML import to align with new tax authority changes in regards to transaction dates.

Working Papers
- Fixed an issue that prevented parent files on SmartSync Server from being renamed through a child copy in Working Papers.

CaseView
- Fixed an issue where scripts that run upon opening a CaseView document would fail if Multiple Document Windows was enabled.
Integration with AnalyticsAI
Working Papers now integrates engagement files with AnalyticsAI. Firms can improve their audit process by creating AnalyticsAI engagement files directly from Working Papers, uploading trial balance data, and incorporating reports based on specific tests back into Working Papers.
Integration with multiple Cloud sites
We’ve added support for integration with multiple Cloud sites. Users can now save the details of multiple sites and easily switch between them from the Options dialog. Note that for security reasons, login credentials are cleared when you switch sites.
Single sourcing engagement properties from Cloud
Cloud-integrated files now single source engagement properties, including contact information, from Cloud. When integrating a file with a Cloud entity, the engagement properties will automatically populate with the properties from Cloud. This ensures that the engagement files for each client are consistent and saves you the effort of filling out client information manually.
Bulk property changes to automatic documents
The properties of leadsheet/grouping, tax reconciliation, and trial balance documents can now be modified simultaneously if all documents share the same type and format.
Cell action to publish data to the trial balance
CaseView cell values can now be published to the trial balance to support note details in consolidated files. Create an event cell with the Move to Performance Measures action to push the value of a tagged cell to the performance measures database.
General enhancements
CaseView
- Merged pages are now retained in the Print Preview dialog upon closing the preview. To unmerge pages, simply right-click the merged pages and select Remove this merge group, or close the CaseView document.
- Numbered list items that are separated by a bullet list or paragraphs now retain their numbering. Added the option to restart the numbering of a numbered list.
- Multiple document references can now be added simultaneously, similar to Working Papers. You no longer need to add references one at a time in a CaseView document.
Documents
- Added a Delivered Date property to automatic documents that allows you to track the date when a document deliverable has been sent to a client. A column has also been added to the Document Manager so you can easily view the delivered dates for all applicable documents.
- Template authors can now add placeholder documents to the Document Manager more efficiently using the Placeholder or New | Placeholder ribbon options.
- Custom adjustment types can now be included in the balance of user-defined automatic documents to allow for greater customizability.

Issues
- Issues with multiple issue types now list each type in the Issues pane, rather than stating "Multiple".
- Issues with multiple issue types will now only roll forward or be retained on cleanup if all other assigned issue types share the same setting. If one of the multiple issue types is set to be cleared, that setting will take precedence when performing a year end close and clean up routine.
Licensing
- A new version of the Network License Server is available for use with Working Papers 2020. Organizations with network licenses must download and install the new version from MyCaseware to ensure continued access.
Lock down
- Added China as a jurisdiction in the Engagement Lockdown Wizard.
Mapping and grouping
- Budget and forecast balances can now display in the Assign Mapping Numbers dialog to improve the mapping process.
SmartSync
- A list of outstanding sync copies now displays when attempting to rename a traditional SmartSync file. Use this list to determine who needs to delete their sync copy prior to renaming the file.

- Redesigned the Year End Close dialog to better facilitate the bulk year end close and roll forward process.

Imports

Migration Manager
- When uploading data store users in the Migration Manager, you can now simultaneously upload data store groups and permissions to the Working Papers Security settings on Cloud.
- Improved the accuracy of the auto-mapping process when creating the CSV map file. The Migration Manager can now determine the usage of the Client Name and Operating Name parameters and map them accordingly.
Queries
- Added a Receive function that retrieves accepted documents from the linked Queries file and adds them to the Document Manager. To utilize this function, documents in the Queries file must first be linked to the Document Manager using an Author ID.
Templates
- To improve efficiency, you can now copy documents from a second template when creating a template-based Working Papers file. In File | New, select the source template, then click Create file and copy documents from another template to select the second template.
Users and Groups
- Administrators can now define which groups have permission to rename Working Papers files in the group’s properties. On the Rights tab, select the File category and enable Rename File.
Fixes
- Fixed an issue that would remove users from Active Directory groups when the associated file was converted to Working Papers 2019.
- Fixed an issue where outstanding sync copies were not abandoned correctly after renaming a SmartSync Server file.
- Fixed an issue where Working Papers would stop responding when connected to a data store containing usernames longer than 21 characters. Working Papers and the Data Store Administration Tool must both be updated to resolve this issue.
- Fixed an issue that prevented tooltip text from scaling when using monitors with 4K resolution.
- Fixed an issue where protected files would not be visible in the file list after publishing them to a SmartSync Server.
- Fixed an issue where the Auto-publish after integrating option was still available in Engagement Properties after a file had already been published.
CaseView
Cells
- You can now add and remove cells from an existing conditional formatting rule, rather than recreating the rule to include or exclude them. Select a rule and click Edit Rule, then add or remove cells in the Applies To pane.
Knowledge Library
- It now takes significantly less time to display documents in the Knowledge Library Index after the first comparison.
Fixes
- Fixed an issue where documents with section tags would export to Inline XBRL with incorrect formatting.
- Fixed an issue where previewing cells in the Conditional Formatting Rules dialog would not display customizations to underlines.
- Fixed an issue where cutting and pasting a cell would cause it to lose any conditional formatting properties.
- Fixed an issue where conditional formatting in a Knowledge Library entry would not transfer when the entry was inserted into a document.

Analytics
- We've introduced the Customer Experience Improvement Program to Working Papers. With this program, we collect usage data so that we can better understand the user journey in our software. Our intended use of this data is to drive development toward high value features and fixes; we do not collect personally identifiable information or client data and we will not use any data for marketing purposes.
Note: The Customer Experience Improvement Program is optional and you can opt-out at any time.
Cloud Integration
- Working Papers now integrates with Cloud's Queries feature. By linking Queries to your engagement file, your organization can collaborate with clients on the engagement directly from Working Papers. To create or link a Queries file in Working Papers, click Cloud | Open.
Note: This feature is only available to users who have licensed their region's Queries product. Contact your local distributor for licensing details.

- Improved performance when managing Global Protection settings for large Active Directory groups.
Graphs
- Graphs and ratios now print with the associated leadsheet automatic document if the Graphs view is enabled. You can preview graphs and ratios in Print Preview.
- Changing the properties of an automatic document, such as the Period or Balance Type, now automatically updates the associated graph and ratios in the Graphs view.

- When importing entities from an ASCII or Excel file to a consolidated file, added entities are now sorted by Entity Abbreviation. This default sorting method makes it easier to organize new entities.
Issues
- Issues can now be assigned multiple issue types. Assign all applicable issue types to further define an issue's criteria and improve discoverability when searching for issues with a filter.

- Link multiple documents simultaneously when adding a document reference to automatic documents, images and PDFs, or Microsoft Office documents, rather than one at a time.
SmartSync Server
- SmartSync Server parent files can now be renamed from Working Papers using a local sync copy. Before you can rename a parent file, all other staff must delete their sync copies first, otherwise they will be abandoned.
- Increased the threshold that determines when to flush a file on a SmartSync Server. Users can now configure their own flush threshold.
Fixes
- Fixed an issue that would hide various line items in the Tax Trial Balance document after switching entities from the context menu.
- Fixed an issue that prevented the Caseware Agent from displaying when working in a document with updated tax codes.
- Fixed an issue where local copies of Cloud integrated files would become inaccessible when working offline.

CaseView
Authoring
- Improved multi-user access in the Knowledge Library. A team of template authors can now contribute to the development of a template without the need to exit files that other authors want to update.
- Template authors can now implement modeless HTML dialogs using the Launch HTML Dialog event. With modeless HTML dialogs, users can continue working in the CaseView document while the dialog is open, rather than forcing them to close it first.
Cells
- Added the CVIDEA cell function. Use this function to display information from a Caseware IDEA .imd file in your document. If the .imd file is modified, any linked documents will automatically update.
- The ENTABBR cell function now supports a greater variety of calculations in the extended description of a consolidated entity.
History and Milestones
- Improved milestone comparison to better support comparison of tables, images and graphs. These objects should no longer display distorted or blank in the Visual Compare dialog.
Interface
- Improved text scaling on monitors with 4K resolution.
- Added a new assortment of icons to the Quick Access Toolbar (QAT). When configuring a custom QAT button, click Appearance to select a new icon.
- Extended the duration in which tooltips display to improve usability.
Lists
- Improved the functionality of lists in CaseView. You can now create multi-level lists with customized settings for each list level, including the option to alternate between bulleted and numbered lists. After customizing a multi-level list, you can save it for reuse in CaseView documents.
- When viewing the Print Preview of a document, you can now merge the content from a specified range of pages to reduce the page count. This option is useful in instances where text or tables are spilling over to the next page.
Rounding
- You can now apply or remove multiple Rounding Relations simultaneously, rather than one-by-one. In the Rounding dialog, select multiple relations in the Relation List and click Apply This Relation to toggle between applied and removed.
- Rounding relations are now automatically grouped based on their dependencies. If a relation in a group fails, only relations that depend on it will fail. Previously, if any relation in a document failed, all relations would fail, regardless of whether they were dependant on the failed relation or not.
XBRL
- In XBRL Review mode, clicking on a cell or paragraph now displays footnote information to help content creators determine where XBRL footnotes are tagged.
Fixes
- Fixed an issue where embedding external documents into a CaseView document would result in reduced performance or crashes.
- Fixed an issue that caused bar graphs to display data in the opposite order of what was labeled.
- Fixed an issue where CaseView documents with embedded PDFs would print darker and more saturated than expected.
- Fixed an issue that prevented watermarks on printed documents from displaying properly centered.
- Fixed an issue where CaseView would stop responding when attempting to preview a missing document in the Knowledge Library.
- Fixed an issue where exported tags split across multiple Inline XBRL elements would result in a syntax error.
Tracker
File Management
- Perform a year end close and roll forward on one or multiple local files directly from Tracker. Performing a bulk year end close enables you to generate multiple new files for the next year simultaneously.
- When performing a bulk file conversion, the Cannot Convert File dialog now displays at the end of the conversion process, rather than after each failed file. This prevents a failed conversion from interrupting the conversion process. You can view failed conversions afterward in the conversion log file.
- Streamlined the local file scan process to reduce completion time.
SmartSync Server
- You can now compress and uncompress SmartSync Server parent files from Tracker.
- Added confirmation dialogs when selecting the following commands to prevent accidental modifications to SmartSync Server files:
- Abandon All Sync Copies
- Abandon Specific Sync Copies
- Clear Synchronization Info
- Delete Server Copy
- Repair Server Copy
Result summaries for these commands have also been improved.
- Improved how the Location column displays sync copy information when the Display SmartSync copies under location field option is enabled.
Fixes
- Fixed an issue where deleted SmartSync Server files would be re-added to Tracker when scanning the server for files.
- Fixed an issue that caused Tracker to stop responding when two different versions of the application were installed on a single workstation.
