Enhancements for IFRS Financials 7.0
CONTENT MANAGEMENT
Identifying New Notes, Expired Notes and Effective Dates for Notes
  • Added new fields to the Knowledge Library Index, which are controlled through the firm libraries.
  • Enhanced the content management of the notes in the firm library so that each can be updated with controls for marking
    • new notes and providing a date selection for when the note should be considered new until.
    • expired notes and providing a date selection for when the note should be considered expired. In addition, notes can be marked as being useable after the expiry date.
    • notes as being effective for use after an effective date or effective fiscal period.
  • Incorporated new menu options in the firm note library to view all tagged notes by new, expired, or effective date.
  • Introduced a new menu option Document | Content Management to the financial statement document at the engagement level. This menu includes the ‘Check for Updates’ feature as well as several new options:
    • Highlight Out of Date – Content that has a newer version available in the knowledge libraries is outlined with green brackets.
    • Highlight Expired Notes - Expired notes in the existing financial statement are outlined with a red box.
    • Clear Highlighting - Clears the highlights from the content for out of date formats or expired notes to the financial statements.
    • Browse New Notes - opens a Knowledge Library Index Preview that displays all note content marked as new. This view is an overview only and notes cannot be inserted directly from this area.
    • Browse Expired Notes - opens a Knowledge Library Index Preview that displays all note content marked as expired.
    • Browse Effective After Notes - opens a Knowledge Library Index Preview that displays all note content marked as effective after a date or fiscal period.
  • Implemented a feature to allow notes that are marked as expired and usable after the expiry date can be inserted after a warning. Notes that are not marked as usable after the expiry date will no longer be displayed at the engagement level in the knowledge library index.
Additional Level in the Notes Knowledge Library Index
  • Added a new option to the notes sorting dialog in the firm notes library that allows notes be moved from one subtopic to another. Note that the user can move items created by the firm.
  • Notes created for the country-specific template may or may not have the feature enabled – users should check with the template distributor in their jurisdictions.
WORKING WITH CASEWARE® WORKING PAPERS DATA
Multiple Groupings
  • Enhanced financial statements and notes to be based on an alternate grouping instead of just on mapping. The choice for grouping is found under Settings | General | Financials settings | Statements, notes, and reports in the Financial statement options (Document ER).
  • Added features that allow firms to
    • lock the grouping choice in the Firm financial options document (Document CL).
    • disable the use of grouping options at the engagement level in financial statement options (Document ER).
  • Expanded the selection of mappings/groupings to a per-table or per-line basis in each statement or note using the Section and Line menus. The user can select from alternate groups where the data is pulled from within a statement, schedule, or note.
  • Incorporated shading into the map/group number cells if a table or line is set to use a grouping other than the default. The color shading helps to identify that an alternative grouping is used. Note that different colors are used when the entire table is selected versus an individual line.
Foreign Exchange
  • Enhanced foreign exchange settings from Working Papers to be applied to IFRS Financials. The foreign exchange option is set at the engagement level under Financial Statement Options | Financials settings | Statements, notes and reports.
Browses
  • Modified titles to show in the map number browses, marked with a ‘T’.
  • Enhanced the map number browses to be viewed in two ways:
    • as a flat list or
    • as a collapsible hierarchy.
    • Use the Options | Browse menu to switch between the two.
  • Extended the description of the Number column heading in the browses to show which grouping is selected (e.g. Mapping, L/S Numbers. Group 2, Group 3, etc.).
FORMATTING
Firm Underline Options
  • Added a new underline type - “Single (Heavy)”.
  • Made additional underline options lockable at the firm level, including the underline type and default color.
Table Heading Borders
  • Redesigned the table properties to drop the idea of a middle border by treating each line in the table heading individually as opposed to viewing all the lines in the heading as one line item. A firm's options for table heading borders include:
    • Default (Leave headings as they currently exist in the library.)
    • Top/Bottom - (Current behavior.)
    • Top only
    • Bottom only
    • None
    • Note that changes to the table heading borders will only be reflected in any new content the firm adds. Existing content is not adjusted.
  • Enhanced the table properties at the engagement level so that any row in a table heading can be underlined just as a data line in the body of the table is; this replaces the “middle” functionality that previously existed. Each line in the heading is now regarded as an individual line rather than viewing the heading as a one underline item.
Styles and Formatting
  • Redesigned the Styles and Formatting dialog for easier navigation.
  • Created new options in the Styles and Formatting dialog to format
    • only a selected line in a table or
    • footers.
  • Added additional styles that can be modified and applied by the firm or at the engagement level as needed. These styles are not currently used anywhere in the existing content and can be used where an additional style is needed. These new styles are identified with either a “2” in the name (e.g. CP2 are additional cover page styles) or UDF (“user-defined”) in the style name. The new styles can be displayed and modified in the Style Sheet Preview document and include styles for:
    • Cover Page
    • Table of Contents
    • Headers and Footers
Indentation and Alignment
  • Created a new option to turn off the "automatic indenting" of notes and always use the indents as defined in the styles and tables.
  • Introduced finer control of the left align of tables using
    • individual settings for each of the following areas in the financial statements – Accounting Policies, Notes, and Reporting by Directors areas.
    • options to have the left alignment of the table follow the alignment of:
      • a paragraph with a particular style (e.g. Nt Text, Nt Text Level1, RD Text);
      • the page left margin (0 cm indent), or;
      • the note heading.
  • Added a menu item under Options to refresh the note indentation. Changes to any indentation option must be reloaded using the refresh option as any changes are not updated automatically.
Space between Columns
  • Modified the default spacing between columns to be set globally. This allows the amount of white space between the columns to be set by the firm as a standard.
  • Incorporated additional options for underlining the space between columns. Firms can define how spaces in the headings are displayed, independent of the body of the table. There are three options related to underlining the space between column headings:
    • No underline on spaces between columns, including headings.
    • No underline on spaces between columns, excluding headings.
    • Underlines on all spaces between columns.
WORKING IN THE STATEMENTS AND FIRM LIBRARIES
Enhanced Column Properties Dialog
  • Redesigned the Table Column Properties dialog (accessed through Section | Format Columns…) to use a tabbed interface with the following enhancements:
    • General
      • Displays table width and the available page width (or column width if using a 2-column layout) at the top of the dialog.
      • Allows multiple columns to be modified at once in the dialog. For example, select the Parent – 2008 and Parent - 2007 columns and change the width on both columns at once.
    • Column Size Tab
      • Set the column width and the space between columns to respect CaseView’s built-in constraint that a column must be at least left side + right side + 0.10 inches wide. These constraints are now set as a minimum value when setting the size options.
      • Added an option to prevent any shading from applying to the column heading.
    • Column Format Tab
      • Incorporated new options to set the internal horizontal and vertical alignment of cells in a column. The previous alignment feature adjusted the paragraph alignment within a table row or column, whereas the new feature sets the alignment of content within individual cells.
    • Border Options Tab
      • Introduced new options to add vertical and horizontal borders to columns. This tab has options to set borders on the column heading independent of the borders on the column body. This feature allows users to place a border around any column.
Note Number References
  • Allowed changes to note number appearance to be set for all note references within a statement. This can be set in an option in the note number appearance dialog.
  • Modified note number references to be added to title, total, and subtotal lines using the Line Properties dialog.
Note Carry Forward Headings
  • Added an option to the Print Options dialog in the Financial Statements document (Document FSIFRS) to regenerate the note headings for subsequent pages (i.e. regenerate the carry forwards for the note headings). Some changes that are made to the note headings are not automatically reflected in the carry forward shown on subsequent pages (e.g. entering text outside of the input cell). There are new menu options under Options to refresh the note headings for all carry forwards for the document.
Logos
  • Created options to select the firm and entity logos. These options can be found in Firm financial options (Document CL) under Logos and in Financial statement options (Document ER) under General | Financials settings | Statements, notes and reports. Selections made in these areas only affect picture objects using the original default logo paths. Picture objects that have had their path calculations changes will not be affected.
Additional Options for “Text in front of date”
  • Incorporated four input cells in the Firm Financial options (Document CL) under General Settings, which allow the firm to add additional items into the drop-down list of options for “Include text in front of date”.
Statement Heading Dates
  • Enhanced specification of how text will appear in the date area of the statement headings. For example, users can change the “–” in January 01, 2008 – December 31, 2008 to “to the period ended”, resulting in “January 01, 2008 to the period ended December 31, 2008”.
User-created Tables
  • Introduced a concept of ownership when a table is created using the CaseView Table menu. If a user creates a new table in Enable Editing mode using CaseView’s Table menu, document and section security settings no longer prevent edits from being made to the table. This was introduced in response to requests for a way to let users create their own tables.
FIRM LIBRARIES
Apply Automatic Formatting to Firm Content
  • Added an option to the firm financial options to allow firms to elect to have all of the automatic formatting options applied to their firm library content. Currently, the firm library content is exempt from certain formatting options set in the engagement options (Document ER). For example, this can be applied to settings for note headings and underlines.
Permissions
  • Created additional security permissions that can be granted in the firm libraries. Changes include additional permissions in the statement heading and statement text areas.
Cell Attributes
  • Built a new option under General Settings that allows firms to enable access to cell attributes at the engagement level. This feature gives the user the ability to modify additional items on a cell-by-cell basis in the statements. Firms are cautioned that enabling access to the cell attributes will allow users to modify attributes of specific cells outside of the standards set by the firm. Firms should ensure that they carefully consider the implications of this option Highlight Linkage Across Libraries
  • Added an option to highlight rows marked as linkage sources and linkage targets across the firm statement libraries.
CASH FLOW WORKSHEET
Show Active Items Only
  • Upgraded the template so that cash flow items with zero balances can now be hidden by using the menu option Document | Active Items Only. This results in only the items that are currently used in a particular engagement to be displayed, while still retaining a complete firm list of possible cash flow disclosure items. The complete list can be easily displayed and reviewed, whether or not any additional items are applicable to the particular engagement.
HELP
Online Help
  • Moved the online help system to the same platform as Working Papers' help. This allows for cross-linkage to existing Working Papers and CaseView help where further information on the general functionality may be beneficial to the user.
  • Updated and reorganized the online help in many areas.
  • Added a detailed index to help search for various topics.
Training Material and Guides
  • Updated training material and guides to cover all new enhancements.
