Enhancements for Working Papers 2008
ENGAGEMENT MANAGEMENT
Protection (Security)
  • Introduced a centralized protection system that maintains security groups (Global Groups) that can be easily added into client files. The security settings in the centralized system will remain in line with the groups in the client file as the information from the centralized system will be pushed to the client file each time it is opened.
  • Using Tools/Protection Setup you can access protection information, both global groups and users external to the client file.
  • Introduced a new option in the Active Directory Synchronization screen called Force Password Change. If enabled the user will be forced to change their password the next time they log in. Once the password has been changed the flag will be cleared and can be re-enabled at a later date to force the user to change their password again.
  • Enhanced security to require log in prior to uncompressing a file with security enabled.
  • Tightened protection settings so mapping extended descriptions cannot be modified where no mapping permissions have been set.
  • Added three new security rights:
    • Delete milestone – With this security right users can delete milestones in the history dialog. To delete milestones in the Document Properties dialog, users will need this security right along with the Modify Document Properties right.
    • Set User Password – defaulted to the value of the Set User Properties security right, this option allows firms to have greater control over the actions available to staff.
    • Create New User - defaulted to the value of the Set User Properties security right, this option allows firms to have greater control over the actions available to staff.
Shared Data Store (Central Data Store)
  • Renamed the Central Data Store to Shared Data Store.
  • Improved maintenance of the Shared Data Store by adding a Rebuild Store option. The option can be used to repair shared data stores.
Check In/Check Out
  • Enhanced Check In/Check Out functionality to prevent read-only documents from being moved around on the Document Manager.
Lockdown
  • Enhanced Lockdown with the addition of a Keep unlocked until relocked option to the unlock dialog. Once selected, upon unlocking the client file will remain unlocked until it is physically relocked by the user.
  • Modified the Lockdown function to:
    • Maintain pre-lockdown milestones for any document that has not been locked down;
    • All documents added after lockdown to be locked;
    • Prevent users from changing the tickmark properties after lockdown has occurred;
    • Remove the ability to delete locked down documents, even if the file has been unlocked.
Backup
  • Improved the Back Up feature to support the inclusion of sub folders. If selected all sub folders will be compressed and included in the .ac_ file.
Maintenance
  • Enhanced the management of document links through a new option available in the Tools/Maintenance dialog. The Manage Document Links option allows users to view documents in the client directory that are not on the Document Manager and documents on the Document Manager that are not in the client directory. The listing of documents reviewed includes .cvw, .doc, .xls, .pdf, .txt, .tiff, .ppt, .jpg, .mdb.
PAPERLESS
Annotations
  • Incorporated an annotation toolbar that shows all tickmarks and insert buttons for Notes, References, and Tickmarks.
  • Modified annotations to preserved annotations added to drill-down documents. Annotations entered on Automatic document drill-down documents in Working Papers versions 2005, 2006 and 2006.50 will be visible in Working Papers 2008.
  • Added support to copy and paste annotations in scanned documents.
  • Added ability to skip annotations and commentary when using the Save as PDF or Send To/ Mail Recipient (As PDF Attachement) options from the right click menu on the Document Manager.
  • Enhanced printing of automatic documents to include the ability to print the tickmark legend. Include tickmark legend checkbox has been added to the following dialogs Print; File/Export/Batch PDF; Save as PDF file; Send to/Mail Recipient (as PDF Attachement).
  • Added annotation column for all Analytical Review – Variance By five year formats.
PDF Export
  • Enhanced Save as PDF file to allow saving directly to the client file and Document Manager.
  • Incorporated the latest version of the PDF generator to improve stability during the Batch PDF process.
Excel Export
  • Incorporated a Save as Excel function for automatic documents. Annotations included in the automatic document will also be included in the export.
TRIAL BALANCE, WRITE-UP AND ACCOUNTING
Working Trial Balance
  • Improved printing from the Working Trial Balance so all columns are available in the print and print preview for each Tab.
  • Added opening rate column for current year only to main foreign exchange tab.
  • Split-up accounts will now renumber if the associated main account is renumbered.
Adjusting Journal Entries
  • Enhanced Adjusting Journal Entries to display the creator.
  • Incorporated history support to track created, deleted and renumbered adjusting journal entry events.
  • Modified the Adjusting Journal Entries interface to include a History button. This allows users to view information regarding created, deleted and renumbers adjusting journal entry event quickly. The date and user information can also be used by selecting the Details button on any particular event.
  • Incorporated navigation buttons in the Adjusting Journal Entries interface to allow users to move quickly between entries.
  • Modified the print preview to show entries in the order they were entered, rather than account number order.
Consolidation
  • Enhanced Consolidation dialog to allow external files to be launched using the Open File right click menu.
  • Incorporated a Consolidate All button in the consolidation dialog to force a consolidation to take place.
  • Through enhancements in the Other Entries interface, the same balancing account number can be used for multiple entities in a consolidated file. The entity will display on the other entries screen to indicate the entity of the current balancing account. selected.
  • Modified the General Ledger automatic document to include a Context field in the document properties. Users can now specify which entity to include on the automatic document independent from what has been selected for the whole file.
Other Entries
  • Improved the Other Entries interface to:
    • Clearly identify the balancing account in use;
    • Support sorting by Reference Number, Description, Date or Account columns.
  • Incorporated Type ahead functionality in the Other Entries journals – in the description field any previous descriptions that were used in the current journal selected will now be given as candidates for auto completion.
Mapping and Grouping
  • Incorporated three new options to further support mapping. These options can be accessed from the Tools/Options/Mapping – General dialog:
    • Autofill selected account properties radio button allow specific mapping properties to be replaced regardless of whether the property had previously been selected. This can be used when the properties of a map number needs to be pushed out to existing client files.
    • Only autofill selected propreties if blank checkbox allows the overwriting of account properties with blank map properties.
    • Clear account properties if corresponding map number properties are blank check box allows the user to set existing map number properties to blank if the new map number property is blank.
  • Improved wording of bubble help that appears for the warnings symbols that appear next to the new assigned map numbers in the Working Trial Balance.
  • Changed title of Account Mapping dialog to Engagement Mapping.
  • Improved Purge functionality:
    • Increased the length of the Filter Expression in the Purge Criteria dialog to a maximum length of 510 characters.
    • Added support to allow unassignable map numbers to become assignable if all children are removed during a Pruge.
Export Adjusting Entries
  • Enhanced QuickBooks Adjustments export to provide users with the option to include tax entries in the export file.
INTERFACE
  • Enabled Send to Mail Recipent menu option when Document Manager is closed.
IMPORTS AND TAX INTEGRATION
Imports
  • Incorporated new imports for the following accounting software applications:
    • Accountant’s Drill version 7.12
    • AvantagePRO version 10.0
    • AVANTAGEProgression version 14.6
    • Connected Precision Accounting version 5.2.73
    • MYOB (Direct) – Premier 10.x.x Australia
    • Adagio Ledger – version 9.0
    • Added Import client information option to all imports allowing users to control when the engagement properties information is updated.
  • Incorporated an option to import accounting data from an existing Working Papers client file. Using the Import/CaseWare Working Papers file… menu option you are able to specify the period to be imported.
  • Improved performance of imports when performed over the network.
  • Enhanced Prosystem fx Engagement import to include PDF files in addition to the Microsoft Word and Excel documents already imported.
  • Improved Simply Accounting import to support the import of budget data.
  • Reorganized the BusinessVision imports into 2 headings BusinessVision and BusinessVision (Legacy).
  • Incorporated department support for the ACCPAC series of imports. By selecting the Use department number to build entities option, you are now able to import department data.
  • Enhanced Avantage Progression import to allow users to import prior year as current.
Imports - ASCII and Excel
  • Improved the ASCII and the Excel File imports to:
    • Allow users to exclude rows from the middle of the data set; autosense if rows should be excluded from the import and allow user to specify which Excel worksheet is to be imported;
    • Allow users to exclude the entity part of an account number; and allow users to display duplicate account numbers in a consolidated import file;
    • Show the customized Grouping names in the column headings and pop-up menus;
    • Prevent reversing entries from automatically being created when importing year to date balances through the selction of options in the Advanced Specification dialog.
    • Import Tax Identifier is included in the import file. the tax code limit is 4 characters;
    • Expanded the predefined list of Excel extensions that are automatically identified to include Excel 2007 file types (xlsx, xlsm, xltx, xltm, xlsb, xlam).
Tax Integration
  • Enhanced the Assign Tax Export Code Numbers dialog to support the creation of new tax export codes.
  • Modified the Tax export dialog to save the last tax export settings as the default for the client file.
Tax Integration – Canada only
  • Revised the GIFI export interface to allow users to identify the components that are to be included in the export – Balances; CaseView Notes; or Balances and CaseView Notes.
  • Modified Profile T2 export to autosave return upon completion of the export.
WORK PAPERS
Document Manager
  • Increased length of the Document Name field to 150 characters.
  • Improved support of Outlook integration to keep all copies of documents copied from Outlook regardless of whether the document name already exists.
  • Improved handling of creating Word and Excel documents to prevent overriding existing documents with the same name.
  • WTB can now be used as a document idenfier for CaseView documents.
Automatic Documents
  • Introduced user defined Structured Report Layouts that can be applied to automatic documents. Up to three structure definitions may be defined.
  • Enhanced Trial balance, Leadsheet and Analytical Review automatic documents to support calculated map numbers when using a Format containing Group Totals.
  • Enhanced automatic documents to update the Net Income value where adjustments have been posted to Mapping or Grouping numbers.
  • Improved the Journals automatic documents to support a sort order option.
  • Enhanced Adjusting Journal Entries automatic document to include a Recurrence column where reversing and recurring entries are identified.
  • Modified Issues automatic document to support sorting by document order.
  • Modified Diagnostics automatic document to separate Adjusting Entry Out of Balance option into two items Financial/Mapping/Grouping/Tax and Cash Flow/Performance Measures.
TEMPLATE DEVELOPMENT including CaseView
Packager
  • Improved Packager functions to:
    • Remove template icon immediately upon running the uninstall;
    • Improve wording of text appearing on the packager install screens;
    • Correct the display of the Working Papers version number in various packager dialogs.
Printing and Print Preview
  • Modified Printing feature to:
    • Allow collate of print job;
    • To download TrueType fonts to the printer;
    • Embed PDFs and print as part of a CaseView document ;
    • Display note annotations on a separate page after the main document;
    • Improve the speed when print previewing a document with wide tables.
Calculations
  • Introduced a Calculation Organizer available from Design Mode. This dialog can be used to help maintain all calculations within a CaseView document.
Headers and Footers
  • Increased the number of Headers and Footers supported in CaseView to 50 each.
Tables
  • Increased number of Table columns supported in CaseView to 208.
Note Numbers
  • Incorporated Note Number Style support in CaseView. Users can create note number styles, load and save note number style sheets from files. Support for note number levels has been increased to 10.
Custom Properties
  • Enhanced Custom Properties to:
    • Support the ability to specify Custom Properties in the File/Document Settings dialog;
    • Refer to those custom properties using the CustProp function;
    • Use Document Level Custom Properties using the CVDocPos function;
    • Support Calculations in Custom Properties ;
    • Provide better validation of property names and tooltips for the calculation editor embedded in the list;
    • Added events to Add/Set/Remove custom property values.

Requirements

CaseWare Working Papers - Minimum Supported Configuration

WORK STATIONS

Operating systems
To run CaseWare Working Papers, you require a personal or multimedia computer with one of the following operating systems:

  • Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 1 or higher
  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 or higher (Recommended)
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Service Pack 4 or higher

Hardware

  • Pentium III or higher required.
  • Minimum 512MB RAM. For improved performance or with Windows Vista, 1,024MB or more is recommended.
  • Program requires 150 MB hard drive space.
  • Each client file requires on average 40MB uncompressed or 10MB compressed. The size of open client files will vary depending on the features used and the amount of data entered.
    Working Papers has native compression technology that significantly reduces the size of compressed client files.
  • SVGA monitor capable of 256 colors and 800 x 600 resolution is required. A monitor with 1280 x 1024 resolution or higher is recommended.
    Dual monitors are supported.
  • CD-ROM drive. The Working Papers product is distributed on CD-ROM.
    Updates between CD releases are available as downloads from the CaseWare International Inc. website. High-speed internet connection is recommended for downloading program updates.

Additional components

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.5 (Service Pack 2) or higher.
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 or higher.
  • Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 3 or greater.

FILE SERVER/NETWORKS

A file server can be used to store Working Papers client files.

Per file server/network operating system recommendations

Operating systems:

  • Microsoft Windows 2003 Service Pack 2 or higher
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 or higher
  • Novell Netware 5.1 or higher

WINDOWS NETWORKING ("Peer-to-Peer")
In situations where a workstation is to be substituted for a true file server, we strongly recommend that the operating system for the workstation be Windows 2000 Professional (Service Pack 4 or higher) or Windows XP Professional (Service Pack 2 or higher).
