Enhancements for Time 2008
TIME
Time integration with Working Papers
  • Enhanced the performance of the shared data store so that users can open other files, including non-integrated Time files and their shared Time data store will be unchanged.
  • Clarified meaning of the central data store by renaming it to shared data store.
Client Batch Email
  • Enhanced the batch email system so that if there is a problem connecting to LDAP, the search normally done to find user names and email addresses for Batch email settings will be stopped and the settings from a previous batch email used.
Clients
  • Automated part of the project creation process so that when a new project is created through the Clients dialog, the default project information example (in charge, team leader) is displayed for the project type that was added in the Project Management area.
  • Automated part of the subproject creation process so that when the Subproject dialog is accessed through the Clients | Project dialog and a new subproject is created, the subproject information example (in charge, team leader) is updated based on the project selected.
Reports
  • Trial Balance reports - The client email address was added to all Trial Balance reports.
  • Credit note journal – Now able to print credit note journal with memos or without.
  • Project exceed budget – Report now excludes transactions that have not been approved.
  • Project list – Report now excludes transactions that are not yet approved.
Interface
  • Improved installation of a new version to prevent existing font settings from being overwritten in the registry.
  • Added Balloon Help to the file Open dialog. Hover the mouse over an item in the recent file list to display the full path of the currently selected file.
Time and Expense Entries
  • Disabled input into a read only field in the Time or Expense browse.
Protection- Group Membership
  • Extended to let a staff member belong to more than one protection group. For each right, when one group permits the right and another doesn't, the staff member will be granted the right.
  • Improved protection so that only an Administrator may change another Administrator's staff record properties.
Document Manager
  • Added an export to Excel function for automatic reports, Save as Excel, which exports the contents of the automatic report to Excel.
  • Added an option to the Save as PDF feature to add the PDF file to the company file and to the Document Manager.
  • Fine-tuned printing to print from the active dialog and prevent printing of any CaseView document that happens to be selected on the Document Manager.
  • Improved handling when creating Word and Excel documents to prevent overriding existing documents with the same name.
Reports
  • Trial Balance reports - The client email address was added to all Trial Balance reports.

Active Directory
  • Increased the buffer size and implemented better length-checking to prevent buffers from being overwritten during the LDAP synchronization.
  • Updated the Active Directory Integration dialog to require users to change the passwords used when they cannot connect to the Window’s Active Directory.
  • Added a new field to the Active Directory Synchronization screen "Force Password Change". If this is enabled then the user will be forced to change his/her password on the next log in. It can be used any time that an administrator wants to force a password change.
Export GL Transactions to CaseWare Working Papers
  • Added a message at the end of the export process to alert the user that journal entries are not being posted to the trial balance. The user can then repost the Working Papers journal entries that will add the exported journal entries to the trial balance.
Recurring Invoices
  • Improved processing by allowing all codes to be processed at one time.
Diagnostics
  • Improved the WIP E208 diagnostic to instruct users to do a repost to fix the file. Reposting eliminates any invalid WIP records created due to server crashes.
Repair file - Back up file
  • Enabled the creation of a backup file before doing a Reindex or Renumber function so they may be sent to CaseWare Support if there is a problem.
History Manager
  • Revised the creation of file paths in the History Manager to use the universal name in the form of \\ServerA instead of the network mapping drive, e.g., F:\.
Vista
  • Enhanced CaseWare Time 2008 to work with Windows Vista and Office 2007.
CASEVIEW
Page Setup
  • Added a new check box, Center page vertically, to center the contents of a page vertically.
  • The Page Setup dialog now has a drop-down to indicate if the user wants to explicitly set the page number, or increment it by a certain amount.
Billing Invoice – Invoice B
  • Added the ability select popup list codes on new lines and bring in the code descriptions when using the FREE format billing code.
Saving multiple CaseView documents at the same time
  • Introduced a Save All dialog and menu items called Save and Save None to let the user save more than one CaseView document at a time.
Note Numbers
  • Added the feature Note Number Style. Use it to
    • Create a note number style.
    • Delete a note number style. When deleting a style that is currently used, the note number that uses the style will be set to use no style.
    • Load a note number style sheet from a file. Users then have the option of replacing the current style sheet or merging with the current style sheet. If merge is selected, users have the option to keep or replace a note number style if it exists in the current document.
    • Save a note number style sheet to a file.
  • Added two new cell events.
    • Launch Note Number Style Dialog — If users choose empty or “” in the Style drop-down, the dialog will include all styles in the list box on the left hand side.
    • Load Note Number Style Sheet.
  • Increased support for note number levels to 10.
Tables
  • Increased the number of table columns supported to 208
  • Added a property to allow tables to be modifiable in Enable Editing mode at all times. The option is in the main Table Properties dialog and it is titled "Table properties always modifiable in Enable Editing mode".
Calculations
  • Added Calculation Organizer. The new dialog can be accessed from Design mode by selecting Tools | Calculation Organizer.
Interface
  • Hovering over any Calculation control e.g. Equation Bar now displays the evaluated calculation string and the resultant value. If a piece of text has been selected, the evaluation will proceed on the piece of text.
  • Added a shortcut, Ctrl G, to launch the Paragraph dialog.
  • Added support to save multiple CaseView documents at one time through a "Save All Files" dialog and a menu item called "Save All". A "Save All" icon can also be added to the toolbar.
  • Increased the number of headers and footers to a total of 50 each
  • Added three new buttons to customize the toolbar: Font Color, Toggle Bullets and Copy Formatting.
  • Enabled searching for styles from the Style dialog.
  • Enhanced the freeze to split vertically and synchronize to the split of the main window in Form mode and Form mode with enable editing.
Print / Print Preview
  • Added a setting to collate print jobs.
  • Enhanced the ToolTip for the Print button to display the current printer for the document.
  • Added an option to the Print Options dialog to download TrueType fonts to the printer. The option has no effect on PCL drivers, since they always download the fonts to the printer, and is not available when printing to PDF.
  • Enabled CaseView to print PDFs as part of the CaseView document.
  • Improved the speed when print previewing a document with wide tables.
Page Setup

Requirements

CaseWare® Time - Minimum Supported Configuration

WORK STATIONS

Operating systems:

One of the following operating systems:

  • Microsoft Windows Vista
  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 or higher (Recommended)
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional (Service Pack 4 or higher required)


Hardware

  • Pentium III or higher required.
  • Minimum 512MB RAM. For improved performance or with Windows Vista, 1,024MB or more is recommended.
  • Program requires 150 MB hard drive space.
  • A Time company file requires on average 50MB uncompressed or 10MB compressed. The size of open company files will vary depending on the features used and the amount of data entered.
    Time has native compression technology that significantly reduces the size of compressed company files.
  • SVGA monitor capable of 256 colors and 800 x 600 resolution is required. A monitor with 1280 x 1024 resolution or higher is recommended.
    Dual monitors are supported.
  • CD-ROM drive. The Time product is distributed on CD-ROM.
    Updates between CD releases are available as downloads from the CaseWare International Inc. website. High-speed internet connection is recommended for downloading program updates.


Additional components

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.5 (Service Pack 2) or higher.
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 or higher.

A file server can be used to store Time company files.

MICROSOFT'S TERMINAL SERVER

For users who access CaseWare products from multiple locations or would like to improve the speed accessing their files within the same location we suggest exploring Microsoft Terminal Services.

This multi-user server provides the ability to host multiple, simultaneous client sessions. Terminal Server is capable of directly hosting compatible multi-user client desktops running on a variety of Windows-based and non-Windows-based hardware.

Microsoft's Terminal Services can be further extended with the use of Citrix Systems Inc.'s Metaframe product line. The Metaframe product line improves performance, provides stronger security through encryption and authentication, and increases application accessibility.
