Slow performance beginning with Connector 2009.00.060/.064
Problem:
Since upgrading to Connector 2009.00.060 or 2009.00.064, Excel's performance has been deteriorating. What causes this and how can it be corrected?
Solution:
CaseWare has identified an incompatibility issue between Connector and Microsoft Excel which will write duplicate information to the ExcelXX.xlb file every time Excel is launched.
Typically this file is under 100KB. Once this file becomes large enough (usually over a megabyte), performance is impacted.
In version 2009.00.067 and higher, this problem has been corrected and no duplicate information will be written to the .xlb file. The Connector 2009.00.067 patch may be found here.
If performance has already been affected, however, it may be necessary to delete the .xlb file. Office will recreate the file the next time Excel is launched.
XX is the Office version number, so:
Excel12.xlb is for Office 2007
Excel11.xlb is for Office 2003
The location of this file varies depending on which operating system is installed.
For Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel
For Windows Vista or Windows 7: C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel
The impact of deleting this file, however, is the loss of any menu or toolbar customization that may have been done.
